The Alexandria Professional Women’s Network was
established in 1987 to provide networking opportunities
for local businesswomen seeking to support one another. Founders
Linda Slusser, Betty Eiler and Jean Palmer recruited seventeen members
to have monthly luncheons at various locations in Alexandria. Twenty one
years later the luncheons continue at the Courtyard Marriott at 2700
Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria, and the group includes as many as
100 members.
Luncheons provide the opportunity to meet people,
build business relationships, to know, like and trust others, with
a view to gaining new business and networking about professional
opportunities.
Membership is not limited to business owners and professional
practitioners, but is open to women from other areas such as banking,
real estate, and corporations.
The group is extremely diverse and
includes lawyers, accountants, therapists, artists, beauty and health
consultants, human resource, financial, and insurance consultants,
shop owners, authors, and computer professionals.
Luncheons are held
on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 11:30 am. September through May. We do not meet during June, July and August.
Our meetings begin
with table networking and exchange of cards, followed by a short
member spotlight and an informative program. This
years programs include Creative Visioning, Professional Image,
Life Management: Mind Mapping, and Time Management. Each year, one
meeting is limited to networking and sharing business descriptions
with other members.
The group is coordinated by a
13 member planning committee, which
meets monthly under the direction of two Co-Coordinators. Every year
APWN presents a $1000 scholarship to a student from TC Williams High
School.
It
is easy to make a luncheon reservation on the website. Guests are
always welcome. |
